ZATHURA

A.   Synopsis

Zathura are closeups of an old science fiction board game, a game that should have existed in real life. Zathura is a board game. To play is simple, wind it up, push a button and watch a number come up, this determines the number of spaces your playing piece will take. Two rockets chase each other around the twisting path. After your piece moves, a card pops up. The card describes the action to follow. The unique thing of this game is it will be happen in a real life. In this movie, two children, Danny and Walter, are playing this game and one by one something strange happened. Their house even fly in the space and they should achieve the finish line to make it comeback to the beginning.

Plot

Introduction

There Danny discovers the Zathura board game and tries to get Walter to play it with him. Walter would rather watch sports on TV. Danny plays by himself. The game is an ingenious metal contraption; you wind it up and push a button, and your little car moves around a track, and the game emits a card for you to read. Danny has Walter help him read it: Meteor Shower. Take Evasive Action. Just about then the meteors start showering, sizzling through the living room ceiling and drilling through the floor, pulverizing coffee tables and floor lamps. The living room is pulverized, but Danny and Walter are untouched. They run around as if evading meteors, but actually the meteors evade them. Incredible things will happen while they play Zathura, but they will survive. That helps explain why they can still breathe when they open the front door and discover that their house is now in orbit.

Climax

The brothers take turns. The game is inexhaustible. Another card reads,Shipmate Enters Cryonic Sleep Chamber. This means that their sister Lisa, who likes to sleep past noon, has been frozen into immobility in the upstairs bathroom. Other cards produce (a) a fearsome but badly coordinated robot, whose designers spent more time on its evil glowing red eyes than on its memory chips, (b) giant alien lizards who are directly from the pulp scifi tradition of bug eyed monsters, (c) assault fire from spaceships that look like junkyard porpoises. They house almost destroy by zorgon. The first way to finish this game is they should keep play the game.

Resolution

Danny take his turn and there is ten step close the finish line. When Danny was playing the zorgon keep shoot their house. And a card said descent into a black hole. As the two kids hang on for dear life and lizards get sucked into the black hole. Danny and Walter are obviously not going to get hurt. Alien fire blasts away whole chunks of their house, but never the chunks they're in, and the giant lizards seem more preoccupied with overacting than with eating little boys. The situation back to the beginning like nothing happened there. However, their mind keep remember the adventure game.

C.   Character

Danny            : He is six years old child who always curious about something. He also brave, kind,  and obidient person. He also a careless child. He like to take Walter’s attention to play with him. He can’t read yet. However, he is a lovely younger brother for Walter. 

Walter             : He is ten years old who likes football. He is bad-tempered but he actually kind and loves his younger brother, Danny. He has a bad attitude and doesn’t want to admit his fault. Walter also a smart kid and always protects Danny.

Lisa                 : Lisa is Danny and Walter’s older sister. She doesn’t like her brothers bothering her life. She has bad-tempered and a coquettish girl.

Astronaut      : he actually adult Walter. He comes from Danny’s card and help the brothers to finish the game. He is kind, brave and helpful person.

D.   Expressing of the Movie

Astronaut       : “Dude, you’re meat.” (he said that to Danny because the lizards like to eat meat. However, Danny didn’t realize that)

Walter             : “There’s no water, dummy, we’re in outer space.” (Walter wants to warn Danny)

Lisa                 : “You guys actually set the house on fire?” (It means Lisa thinks that their brothers burn their house)

Danny                        : “You’re gonna leave us alone in this creepy old house?” (Danny said that to his father because he doesn’t want his father go)

Danny                        : “Wow! Outer space!”

Walter             : “No.. It’s just nighttime.”

(They do not believe that the game is real happen)

Walter             : “You’re such a baby!” (Walter said that to Danny because he always cries and whine)

Walter             : “Fascinating!”

Lisa                 : “I’ll never leave you.” (Lisa said that to her brothers)

E.   Comments

The movie is visually stunning. The discovery by the children, that their house has been transported to a location in outer space, hovering above a ring of meteors that encircle a large planet, is jaw dropping. The effects are real enough to imply danger, but logic is not a function of children's games, so it does not matter that oxygen, gravity and warmth still exist in the house, even as it is blasted apart by various forces.

While funny and exciting, it is never preachy, Zathura is intelligently written and directed, this is a great family film. We can feel the real space adventure and tighten atmosphere when we watch this movie.

Moral Value

From this movie, we can learn how teamwork solve their problem. The choice only two: keep struggling or die. We also learn do not careless to try something new. We should confront  any kinds of problem that we get.

THE CLIQUE (2008)

Genre of The Movie : Comedy, Drama and Family Movie

Synopsis

Massie Block is the leader of a small group of privileged schoolgirls who arrogantly call themselves 'The Pretty Committee'. These so-called pre-teen 'mean girls' (cynical, egotistical, selfish and narcissistic females) and their clique are respected and feared in their middle school as well as their upper class Rhode Island suburban neighborhood. But Massie's life takes an unexpected turn when her parents friends, a lower-middle class family with a self-assured daughter named Claire move into the Block's guest house and Claire threatens to undermine the superficial Massie's position of the clique.

Plot

Introduction
Massie Block is a cynical 13 year old 'mean girl' who is screaming in her bedroom at her parents because Lyons family, massie's parents' friend, are moving to the small Rhode Island town of Westchester where they live from Orlando, Florida to stay in their guesthouse. When Massie first sees Claire, she hates her right away, judging by her outfit which is a typical design not an expensive and imported item.

Climax
Claire sneaks over to Massie's iMac computer and pretends to be Massie. She telling them that she likes Claire now. That's make Massie's friend got angry with Massie. Kristen, Dylan and Alicia bestfriend Claire and dethrown Massie, because they believe that she is friends with Layne instead of them now, and make Claire their leader. Claire accepts, and even hangs out with them after school. Claire goes home and starts talking back to her mother, being more like Massie was as her new status as the Queen Bee of the Pretty Committee is getting to her.

Resolution
Claire saves Massie from an embarrassing situation by sitting on the cake. Massie is nicer and gives Claire a flower. Claire goes to bed and tells her mother that Massie gave her the flower and she wants Massie being nice to her as well as the flower to last for a long while. In Massie's room, she makes a list of the pros and cons of her life. Massie lists Claire's name in both the pro and con list implying hope that Massie might let Claire become a member of the Pretty Committee that she continues to hold an iron grip over.

Characteristic

Massie Block She is arrogant, spoiled, fashionable, conceited, sensitive and the richest girl because her parents are very rich.

Claire Lyons She is shy, poor, old-fashioned girl. But, she is kind.

Dylan Marvil Dylan is a corrupted soul, obsessing over her so-called-fat body at every second, and on a diet every week with no breaks.

Alicia Rivera She is an exotic, Spanish, black haired beauty with a full bust, a wallet full of credit cards and an unhealthy obsession with Ralph Lauren. Alicia is a self-concious girl who keeps getting hurt by crude comments by boys on her C-cups.

Kristen Gregory She's smart, hardworking, but she is poor, and has strict parents. She is on scholarship to OCD. She is studies all the time to maintain it, shrugs it off as her being an inner nerd. She seems very polite and is super smart

Chris Abeley He is handsome and many girls like him. Massie one of them who love him. He is kind and very polite.

Expressing Language

Massie Block : "This is my worst nightmare!!" ( She doesn't believe that Claire will move to her house, she really doesn't like Claire and her family because they are poor and old-fashioned )

Kristen Gregory: "My question first, one: why does it smell first class airline food?" (She ask why the smell of the car is not good. Because Dylan eat a diet snack and the smell is not good)

Massie Block : "I'd rather be a friendless loser than have a bunch of friends that secretly hate me." (Massie got angry to her friends because she is know the fact that they are hate Massie secretly)

Claire Lyons : "Did you see her shoes, her clothes and her hair? I swear, she looks straight out of magazine!" (She is jealous to Massie's style)
Massie Block : "Loser loser, double loser, whatever, as if, get the picture. DUH!" (She is request chris' sister)

Comments

This movie is tell about a friendship. The acting wasn't anything special and the story predictable and unlike the other reviewers here we couldn't really relate but there was something very special about it. The whole movie had that special something. Even the mean clique was exciting to watch.

All in all I really recommend this movie for anyone wishing to waste away a Sunday morning.

AKEELAH AND THE BEE

A.      Character

Akeelah Anderson : Akeelah is a girl who does not care about the her life and her abilities. She is also very pessimistic and often irreverent attitude. In fact, she is a good kid and wants to fight for the spelling competition. but, he was not adequately supported by her mother .

Dr. Larabee               : He was the chairman of english department who had attended the spelling bee and are familiar with it in about a spelling bee. he has confidence that Akeelah has the talent to spell and he just needs to train harder.

Dylan Chiu                 : Dylan is a boy who is also a finalist of the spelling competition. he failed to become the champion last year, and he was determined should be the champion this year. But because of his father's encouragement, he became depressed and follow the spelling bee with distress.

Javier                          : Javier is Akeelah’s friend in spelling competition. he is very good and encouraging each other. he was very attentive to Akeelah and willing to help if Akeelah is in trouble.

C.      Synopsis

Akeelah is a girl who assume that life is bored. She doesn’t have any confidence to show her ability. Her life is very flat. Everyday, she goes to school, play with her bestfriend, and go home. She even feel bored with school and doesn’t want to give attention about her study. One day, Akeelah’s school held an audition to find the finalist of spelling bee competition. It is a competition where the finalist should spell the words that given by the judges. At first, Akeelah is not interested with this competition, but her teacher can see the akeelah’s ability. So, the teacher enlisted Akeelah to join it.

Suprisingly, Akeelah spelling the word clearly without any fault. All of the audiences is agaze and amazed when they are see Akeelah’s spelling. As a result, Akeelah has chosen to represent her school to the next level. The level are district level, regional level and national level. Akeelah has a coach for rehearsal spelling named Dr.Larabee. He teach Akeelah a good personality, how to exercise hard and how to got confident.  From this competition, Akeelah learns how to believe with her ability, that very important to have dreams, and  we should working hard to attain our success, and also always do our best. The struggle of Akeelah has not stop yet. Because, she will meet with another strong finalists. This movie is very tighten, heartwarming and inspire.

D.      Expressing of Language

Akeelah     : “ So, everybody can calling me a freak and a brilliant?” (It means she pessimistic and doesn’t want to join the spelling competition)

Dr.Larabee : “because I don’t have time to waist on insolent little girl” (It means he doesn’t like an insolent girl and he wants to changes Akeelah’s attitude)

This movie is very inspired us to working hard for our success. We should have a dream and make it happen. Never give up and always do your best.
